Chromebook Issues:

If sound continues to come out of the speakers after headphones are plugged into the chromebook, the system may not be automatically switching the output source.  To manually select the headphones as the output, follow these steps:

Once the headphones are plugged in:

  1. Click on the clock in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop to bring up the menu
  2. Just above Settings, you should see a volume control slider with an arrow pointing to the right.  Click on the arrow to open the Audio Settings menu
  3. Click on Headphone at the top of the list to switch output from the internal speaker to the headphones
  4. Click on Audio Settings at the bottom to return to the main menu
  5. Click somewhere back in your main desktop screen to exit the menu system

NOTICE: This action could use a lot of data.  If you are limited on your data plan, please bring the device to any school parking lot and connect to the building internet before completing this task.

Here are the steps for updating the operating system on your chromebook.  You may need to complete these steps several times if your chromebook is on a very old version of the operating system.

  1. Log on to the chromebook with any school account
  2. Open the Chrome web browser
  3. Click on the 3 vertical dots in the top-right corner to bring up the Chrome menu (this is located just below the X to close the window)
  4. From the bottom of the menu, select Help > and then About Chrome OS from the sub-menu
  5. In the middle of the About window, click on the button that says Check for and apply updates
  6. Once the update process completes, the button will change to say Restart.  Click the restart button
  7. After restarting and logging on to the chromebook, repeat steps 2-6 until the chromebook is fully updated.  When it is fully updated, you will see a blue circle with a check mark in it and the message beside it will state Your Chromebook is up to date.

Here are the steps for clearing your cache and removing cookies from the Google Chrome browser:

  5. In the window that pops up change the Time range drop-down box to All time
  6. Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files should already be checked.  If they aren't then go ahead and check both boxes.  You can also check the first box next to Browsing history if you want to, but it isn't necessary
  7. After setting the Time range and checking the appropriate boxes click on the blue Clear data button
  8. Close the Settings window (if it opened one) and resume using Chrome
  1. Sign into the Chromebook with the student's district G-Suite account

  7. In the "Recent activity" section click on meet.google.com to access the settings
  8. The Camera & Microphone drop-downs are most likely either set to Ask (default) or Block --> change the drop-down settings in these boxes to Allow.
  9. Close out of the browser, re-open Chrome, and try connecting to your Google Meet again.  The camera should be turned off at first, but you should be able to turn it on now.
