Superintendent's Message

Dear MC Family, 

 

Summer, or should I say the monsoon season, has come to an end, yet we continue to experience even more rainy weather.   As you know, we were faced with a challenging fall here at MC.   We encountered many difficult obstacles together, and I want to thank every member of our school community for supporting the district and each other during these recent tough times.  

 

Despite the gloomy weather, there are still rays of sunshine.  The football team made playoffs, the volleyball team earned many wins, cross country boys and girls won the Heritage Conference, and our girl’s cross country team brought home a state championship.  Academically, our students performed impressively on our state standardized testing, scoring among the highest in the county in many areas.

 

Our administrative team remains dedicated to academic achievement and curriculum development.  We continue to refine our new ELA curriculum in the elementary schools.  Grades 7 and 8 adopted a new science curriculum this year with an intense focus on inquiry learning and hands on activities.  The first grading period is coming to an end, and I urge parents to attend the parent conferences November 8th and 9th.  Make it a priority to come in and speak with your child’s teachers. 

 

As the Superintendent, I often find myself immersed in paperwork, state mandates, school reporting, and endless meetings.  This sometimes causes me to feel distant from what is most important to me, “KIDS”.   Several times a week, I drop what I am doing and walk through our buildings.  I do not do this to supervise staff.  I do this to recharge my batteries and absorb energy from our students and staff.  A great example of the energy our positive school community can generate was displayed Tuesday night during our Harlem Wizard’s fundraising event.  I want to thank everyone for selling out the gymnasium.  It was clear that everyone young and old, players and spectators, students and teachers were all able to let our hair down and have some fun. Click on this video for a good laugh!    weimer basketball.mp4
