EACH CHILD CAN LEARN

Suggestions to help your child at home:

  • Discuss your child's day at school. Ask what he/she learned at school today and expect an answer!
  • Set a specific time each day for home- work/study. This may be practicing vocabulary words, rereading the story text, using addition and subtraction flash cards, or counting money and telling time.
  • Read to or with your child about 15 minutes a day. It can be anything in print such as cereal boxes, road signs, maps, travel brochures, etc.
  • Limit the amount of TV time.
  • Use calendars to mark and discuss important events.
  • Make a "to do" list and have your child check-off items as they are completed.
  • Hold high expectations. Children will usually live up to what you expect of them.
  • Instill responsibility in your child by encouraging him/her to show you daily papers, to complete homework, and to return required forms to school.
  • Monitor your child's guided reading assignments.
  • Encourage your child to keep a journal or diary.
